Mechanical maintenance, repair welding and parts fabrication for heavy equipment in aluminum smelters, steel mills and foundries.
The work is coordinated with production and with the furnace or pot schedule. Each piece of equipment has its own energy control procedure: electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and gravity (suspended loads, counterweights). Overhead cranes are taken out of service and locked out before any work in their path.
Conveyors, gear reducers, hydraulic systems, overhead crane structures and runways, as well as parts exposed to heat and abrasion. Planned replacement costs less than a breakdown in the middle of production.
Often, yes: weld repair or fabrication of a custom replacement part shortens the shutdown when the original part has a long lead time. We assess the part with you before deciding.
Yes. Near electrolysis pots, intense magnetic fields can deflect the welding arc: the method and setup must account for this. Wherever there is molten metal, tools and materials must be completely dry, because moisture in contact with liquid metal can cause an explosion.
Yes. Heat in the process does not exempt you from the permit: hydraulic oils, greases, cables and dust remain combustible. Heat stress on workers must also be planned for: breaks, hydration and monitoring.
The location and validity period (no longer than the work shift), a description of the work, the checks made before starting, the name of the fire watch and the signatures. Combustible materials are removed or protected within a 15 m radius. After the work, the fire watch stays in place for at least 1 hour, then the area is checked periodically for at least 4 hours in total. You can download our template below.
